Ghana has secured a spot in the 4×100 meter men’s relay at the 2024 Olympic Games, set to be held in Paris later this year.
The team overcame a significant setback at the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas, where they dropped the baton on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
However, they seized a second chance the following day.
The team achieved a season-best time of 38.29 seconds in Heat 2 with Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati, and Joseph Paul Amoah running in order.
Finishing behind Ghana were Liberia and Nigeria, who also secured their tickets to Paris.
Ghana’s relay hopes were halted by a baton exchange error at the 2023 African Games, resulting in a second-place finish and Nigeria claiming the gold medal.
In 2021, the team faced a similar issue with a changeover, resulting in a sixth-place finish.
Sunday’s performance marked a departure from a previous pattern where the team missed out on various qualification opportunities due to baton drops.
