In a groundbreaking move, the Ghana Tourism Authority has embarked on an ambitious project to introduce paragliding to the Volta Region. Led by Deputy CEO Ekow Sampson, a team of experts including a renowned paragliding pilot paid a site visit to assess potential locations for the maiden project.
The team was warmly welcomed by Mr. Daniel Kojo Agboka-Dzegede, Executive Director of the Volta Development Forum (VDF), who expressed enthusiasm for the project. The assessment focused on three major towns: Likpe, Amedzofe, and Adaklu mountains, with the goal of establishing a paragliding event similar to the renowned Kwahu Paragliding Festival.
According to Mr. Sampson, the project promises to unlock the region’s tourism potential, driving economic growth and community development. “We believe this project will have a positive impact on the region, promoting cultural exchange and community development,” he said.
The team highlighted the potential benefits of the project, including the growth of hotels, restaurants, and other businesses. The VDF executive director Mr. Dzegede and Dr. Stanley Glatey, Vice President of the VDF Tourism Committee, assured the team of their full support and working directly with state institutions for the success of this project.
While challenges such as poor road conditions and inadequate infrastructure were noted, the team is committed to working together to overcome these obstacles. The Ghana Tourism Authority aims to make Volta Region, another premier destination for paragliding.
The DCE for the Guan District Assembly, Hon. Godfred Koffie, at Likpe expressed the assembly’s commitment to supporting the project after full assessment is done and also promoting tourism awareness.
As the project is on assessment stage, the Volta Region is poised to become a major tourist destination, offering breathtaking scenery, exciting adventure activities, and warm hospitality.
