Dozens of suspended workers of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) are demanding their immediate reinstatement, eight months after being taken off the payroll.
The employees, who marched to the company’s headquarters and later staged a protest at Black Star Square on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, accused management of keeping them in limbo since February without pay or explanation.

Carrying placards appealing directly to President John Dramani Mahama and the GWL board, the workers insisted their suspension was unjust and warned that new hires are being brought in to replace them.
“Today is a very sad day in our lives, we have been suspended without any reason. It’s been 8 months since our MD suspended us. We are here to plead with President John Dramani Mahama to intervene on our behalf.

Things are getting worse. We have heard that they’re employing new people to take our roles,” said Eugene Larbi, a former management trainee, who noted that many affected staff are struggling to provide for their families.
The dispute stems from a February 11 directive in which Ghana Water Limited froze all appointments made in November 2024.

The move followed a broader government order annulling recruitments undertaken after December 7, 2024, on grounds of non-compliance with governance procedures.
The workers say the policy has left them unfairly victimized and are urging government to act quickly to restore their jobs and salaries.
