Former Ghana Under-20 goalkeeper Daniel Agyei says he has strong hopes the Black Satellites of Ghana can go all the way to win the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.
Ghana are set to play Uganda in the final of the tournament following their 1-0 win over Gambia in the semi-final earlier this week, courtesy of a Precious Boah free-kick goal.
The Eastern African side made it to the final two after the demolishing of Tunisia in the previous round.
Speaking to GHOne TV, the shot-stopper sounded confident ahead of the game over the weekend and highlighted that Ghana have the qualities to clinch this year’s trophy.
“I am confident in the team and I have hope and believe in Ibrahim Danlad,” he said.
“I have great confidence and I can bet with my life that Danlad and the boys can achieve the trophy and make it a fourth one.”
The former Liberty Professional, who played in the 2009 edition of the AFCON also highlighted that being a finalist was a great feeling, adding that there is a motivation to do something for the country.
He added: “I was very happy and the boys too were happy we were in the final.”
“We had to do something for ourselves, the nation and for our families.
Agyei also singled out the goalkeeper of the team Danlad Ibrahim for praise. He claimed the youngster has done enough to merit the plaudits so far in the tournament.
“Danlad has played very well in the tournament and happens to be the captain of the side,” he continued.
“This is his second tournament he is playing, and has the experience due to his time in the Ghana Premier League. So if I am to choose [standout performer] I’ll choose him,” the 31-year-old concluded.
