Four Ghanaian soldiers sustained injuries following a missile strike on the Headquarters of the Ghanaian Battalion serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces’ Department of Public Relations, one soldier was critically injured and has successfully undergone surgery.
“The critically injured soldier has successfully undergone surgery and is responding to treatment,” the statement said. The other three soldiers sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.
In addition to the human toll, fourteen officers had their accommodation completely destroyed by fire caused by the attack. The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that all affected personnel have since been re-kitted, re-accommodated, and provided with necessary support.
Despite the severity of the incident, the Battalion reportedly maintains high morale.
The statement noted that the soldiers remain resilient and committed to their peacekeeping duties.
The Ghana Armed Forces expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian public and the international community for their continued solidarity.
“We are grateful for the support extended to our soldiers and remain steadfast in ensuring the welfare of our personnel on international peacekeeping missions,” the release added.
