As the world celebrates Safety and Health Day, Ghanaians are being urged to equip themselves with basic fire tips.The move is not only to prevent but fight basic fire at home.
It has been estimated that just one out of ten people have fire extinguishers in their homes or are aware of any basic method to fight small fires.
Some safety officers at KUO Fire safety embarked on a fire fighting sensitization Drive at Bawaasa a suburb of Nima.
The team educated the community on the basic tips to be safe from fire outbreaks.
Safety officer at the firm, Abraham Nana Eshun told the gathering that, “Do not entertain a leaking gas cylinder at hope. Change or fix it.”
He added that, “At least after every 15 years do well to change the wiring of your home. Conduct periodic audits and use the services of qualified electricians.
“In the case of any fire in your kitchen remember your life is the most important. Call an alarm immediately and call the fire service on its 192 line.”
The crowd where taken through some basic tips to fight small fires at home.
Mr. Eshun, admonished them resort to the use of soaked blankets, carbonated drinks like Coca Cola, Fanta, Sprite, baking soda, sand on the fire.
The participants applauded the company for the tips and urged them to frequent the sensitization in the area.
The safety officers at the training, educated the community and the proper ways to us a fire extinguisher as well as the proper extinguisher to use for the different classes of fire.
Chairman of the Bawaasa Foundation, Livingstone Ocloo told Starr News, the Nima neighborhood need a constant reminder of safety measure due to its socio economic fabric.
The vice chairman of the foundation, Patrick Ankomah also urged the company to make the exercise a frequent one at different location in the community.
