Founder and Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews is raining curses on any voter who casts their ballot multiple times in the general election tomorrow, asking for divine intervention to eliminate such individuals.
In a press conference which turned into a petition prayer, Mr. Andrews called for the demise on all who might engage in the electoral offence at the voting booth.
“On the day of voting, those who would vote more than once in any part of the country, God should eliminate that person. God should take wipe them from the face of the earth. Anyone that votes for a particular party and decides to vote for another on the ballot, God should kill them,” he said in an ominous prayer.
He said the reason he was making such utterances was because persons who enaged in that act did not have the nation’s best interest at heart.
Ahead of the election, the Electoral Commission has carried out numerous sensitization programs with the goal of educating voters on how to cast their ballot and reduce the number of rejected ballots recorded.
In 2020, rejected ballots totalled 313,397 representing 2.33% of the total ballot cast. In fact, only the two leading political parties had more votes than the total rejected ballot. The other ten parties and independent candidates recorded less than the spoilt ballots.
Mr. Andrews comments have generated fierce feedback from various sections of the public who felt his comments were inappropriate.
