President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana GoldBoard (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi, for what he describes as an impressive start to the institution’s operations.
The Ghana GoldBoard(Goldbod) formerly known as the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), was officially launched on April 2, 2025. It was established with a mandate to oversee and regulate gold trading activities across the country.
Just weeks into its formation, Goldbod is already making notable strides, achieving results that President Mahama has lauded as remarkable.
“Mr. Sammy Gyamfi is the Chief Executive of the Ghana Goldbod, and he is already doing wonders,” the President said this during a speech in the Ahafo Region as part of his national “Thank You” tour.
Public support for Mr. Gyamfi has surged, with many attributing the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, in part, to Goldbod’s performance under his leadership.
The local currency, which had peaked at nearly GH¢16 to the US dollar last year, has now strengthened to approximately GH¢10 to the dollar—a development welcomed with optimism by citizens and market watchers alike.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to sustaining the cedi’s rebound.
