Ghana Premier League champions, Bibiani Gold Stars, began their 2025 GHALCA Top 4 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win over Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, August 20, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The preseason tournament, featuring the top four teams from last season, kicked off in style and will run until Sunday, August 24.
Kotoko took the lead in the 16th minute when striker Albert Amoah finished off a fine move to give the Porcupine Warriors an early advantage.
Gold Stars, however, responded quickly. Just six minutes later, they were awarded a penalty much to the dismay of Kotoko players, who vehemently protested the referee’s call. Samuel Atta Kumi kept his composure from the spot to level the score at 1-1.
The second half produced more drama, and the decisive moment came when Kotoko defender, Henry Ansu, inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing Gold Stars a 2-1 victory.
