Gomoa Central is set to become a major trade and industrial hub for West Africa, with the establishment of the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GC-SEZ), a 21,000-acre development designed to drive large-scale industrialization, export trade, and regional integration.
Declaring the project on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, described the initiative as a transformative step toward positioning Ghana at the heart of Africa’s economic growth.
According to him, the GC-SEZ is not merely a local development project but “a continental gateway” strategically aligned with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Ghana’s broader 24-hour economy agenda under President John Dramani Mahama.
“From here, we connect straight into Accra, Tema, Cape Coast, and Takoradi; linking directly to both of Ghana’s mighty seaports,” Hon. Asare Obeng said. “Our Zone sits right on the proposed six-lane Abidjan-Lagos Highway; five capital cities, 75 percent of West Africa’s trade; and Gomoa Central will be right at the center of it all.”
He emphasized that the GC-SEZ would be anchored on trade connectivity and logistics, with plans to develop a deep-sea industrial port at Gomoa Mankoadze, completing Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s long-held vision to open up the Central Region as a key gateway for commerce.
The project, he added, would include automobile assembly plants, agro-processing factories, pharmaceutical industries, and ICT innovation hubs, supported by a 350MW solar power plant to ensure clean and affordable energy.
“The GC-SEZ covers more than 21,000 acres of secured, litigation-free land, prepared not just for factories, but for industries, homes, logistics, and commerce,” Hon. Kwame stated. “This is where industries will rise, businesses will flourish, and modern living will thrive.”
He also linked the project to the government’s infrastructure expansion agenda, noting that the ongoing Kasoa–Takoradi Highway expansion would make travel from Kasoa to Gomoa Central less than 15 minutes; a key enabler for trade, mobility, and industrial activity.
Hon. Asare Obeng described the project as a revival of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s industrial legacy, fused with President Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy that delivers jobs, innovation, and productivity around the clock.
“Gomoa Central is the meeting point of history and destiny; where Nkrumah’s dream of an industrialized Ghana embraces Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy to reset Ghana,” he said.
He concluded with a passionate call for unity and determination, urging Ghanaians and investors alike to support the project’s success.
“I have not come to beg for grants or complain about colonialism,” he declared. “I come to declare that in the land of Gomoa lies opportunity; prosperity waiting to be unlocked. Together, let us seize it, shape it, and share it with the world.”
