The government has fully cleared all outstanding claims arrears under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), amounting to GH¢603 million as of December 2024.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, during the Government Accountability Series on Friday, July 18, 2025.
He said the clearance of arrears underscores the government’s firm commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations to healthcare providers.
“I am proud to announce that all NHIS claims arrears totalling GHS 603 million as of December 2024 have been fully settled,” Mr. Akandoh stated.
He further revealed that in the first half of 2025 alone, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) disbursed over GH¢1.38 billion to healthcare providers nationwide.
“In the first half of 2025 alone, the NHIA disbursed over GHS 1.38 billion to providers, reflecting a system that is stronger, more responsive, and more reliable than ever before. “
“This turnaround demonstrates that we are developing a health insurance scheme that benefits all Ghanaians.,” he added.
