Govt initiates strategic projects in Atiwa East to boost education, health and transportation

Atiwa East District Assembly rolls out new education, health and transport infrastructure to improve community development.

Government through the Atiwa East District Assembly has initiated some strategic projects to expand access to Basic education, primary healthcare and facilitate transportation.

The projects include construction of a six-unit ultramodern classroom block for the Bebome 1 & 2 community, Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for Nanapa, and modernisation and expansion of the Anyinam Mensco Lorry Station.

The deplorable state of the Bebome Community 1 & 2 Basic School has for years discouraged parents from enrolling their children, while newly posted teachers often reject postings due to the school’s deteriorated pavilion structures and tattered roofing.

The school serves several farming communities, but its poor state has severely affected enrollment, and teaching and learning.

Community leaders have long appealed for government’s intervention, hence response by the current government to the plight of the community is deeply appreciated.

Another crucial project, a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for Nanapa community, which has struggled to access healthcare for years.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, described the two projects as timely interventions addressing the pressing education and health challenges in the beneficiary communities.

He noted that the initiatives are aligned with the Central Government’s development agenda, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, and financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund – Responsive Factor Grant (DACF–RFG).

“We have been tasked by the president to build, two schools in a year. And this is one of them that we are going to construct. We have given the contractor, six months. But we believe that the contractor will be able to finish within the next five months for us to be able to hand over. The contractor has shown us good work and we trust him. We know that he’s going to do a good work for us so that at least the people will be able to see vision come true.” Said Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim.

According to the DCE, FCWAK Construction Limited has been awarded the Bebome school project while Cherish Homestead Construction Limited will undertake the Nanapa CHPS compound, with both contractors given six months to complete the works.

In a related development, the Atiwa East District Assembly also cut sod for the expansion of the Anyinam Mensco Lorry Station.

The project includes construction of a pavement floor and expansion of the station’s capacity

Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim said the expansion was necessary due to the increasing traffic along the busy Kumasi–Accra highway, explaining that Anyinam serves as a major rest stop for travelers.

The contractor is expected to complete the project within three months.

The Chief of Anyinam commended government for the timely intervention and urged residents to support development initiatives and avoid politicizing government projects.
