Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced a nationwide quality of service assessment to be conducted on all telecom operators in the final quarter of the year (October – December).
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, June 10, the Minister explained that the move is part of broader efforts by the government to enhance telecommunications services and ensure fair value for consumers.
Mr. George reaffirmed his commitment to a leadership style rooted in stakeholder engagement and collaborative policy-making.
He emphasized the need for healthy and sustainable competition in the telecom sector, while noting that improved service delivery and consumer satisfaction are key priorities for the government.
The Minister revealed that telecom operators have been directed to make critical investments in their networks between July and September to enhance service quality.
These investments, he said, will be scrutinized during a rigorous regulatory assessment scheduled for October to December 2025.
According to him, defaulters are going to be penalised as this is a mandatory exercise for all the Telcos.
He said, “I want to reiterate my commitment to an engagement-led style of leadership that involves all my stakeholders, listens to their challenges, and works to address them in a manner that benefits the entire ecosystem. We need intense competition in the sector, but it must be healthy and sustainable. I am committed to value-added data bundle offerings, and most importantly, these policy actions will culminate in price reductions. However, the recovery from eight years of mismanagement cannot be completed in four months. To this end, I have mandated that all operators make critical investments in their networks to improve quality over the next quarter (July-September). The Regulator would commence a rigorous quality of service assessment in the final quarter of the year (October – December), and defaulting operators would be penalised.”
