The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed government plans to establish the University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences at Kintampo in the Bono East Region.
According to the minister, the university will be a merger of existing education campuses in and around the Kintampo township.
Mr. Iddrisu noted that the government had made it a priority to establish at least one university in each of the sixteen regions in the country, therefore the intended establishment will be in fulfillment of that vision.
“I intend to table the bill in Parliament as soon as Parliament reconvenes so that those institutions in and around Kintampo with capacity for the beginning of a full-fledged university for University of Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences will begin in earnest,” he said at the inauguration of governing council of the S.D Dombo University.
He said the new university will serve the Bono and Bono East Regions and boost higher education in the area.
The minister reiterated the government’s pledge to reverse the names of all tertiary institutions changed during the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
He insisted that the move was not to belittle the successes of the previous government in the education sector.
