Government is expected to phase out the operations GC Net and West Blue soon with the introduction of a new trade facilitation platform, UNIPASS.
This is the first time government has officially spoken about the UNIPASS contract after rumors of another third single window at the port.
According to Deputy Trade Minister Carlos Ahinkora, the platform will enhance the ease of doing business at the port.
According to Mr. Ahinkorah government is treading cautiously to avoid judgment debt in terminating the contract.
“The agreement between government of Ghana and Westblue is signed by the ministry of finance but as I speak to you today, I can tell you for a fact that the agreement is in the process of expiring. It is not in our interest to abrogate it, if we have to abrogate it we will use the proper means to abrogate it.
“If we don’t use the appropriate means they will go and take judgment debt. We are very poised in our resolve to ensure no judgment debt befall us, so we will see to it that the transfer from these existing platforms to Unipass will be done smoothly for the betterment of Ghana”.
He, however, revealed that the introduction of UNIPASS was due to the lack of communication between GCNet and West Blue which led to huge revenue loss.
