League leaders Asante Kotoko bounced back to winning ways against West Africa Football Academy as Frank Etouga scored the only goal of the game to draw Kotoko closer to the Ghana Premier League title at the Sogakope Park.
Kotoko were battling with squad depth and player availability as both left backs, Imoro Ibrahim and Patrick Asmah missed the encounter due to suspension.
However, Charles Owusu stepped in with a fine performance which rewarded the Porcupines a collective win.
With an exciting end to end display in the first half, both teams couldn’t break the deadlock.
The golden moment arrived in the 63rd minute when Mbella pounced on a through ball to run rings around the goalkeeper and calmly slotted it into the net to eventually extend his goal tally to 18.
The goal makes the Cameroonian a hero as he brushed aside a long standing record of former Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe. The then Kotoko striker scored 17 league goals in the 2007/08 Ghana Premier League season.
The win also keeps Kotoko at the apex of the league log with 55 points; 10 more than second placed Bechem who are yet to play this weekend.
