GPL Review: Pressure mounts on Ogum as Kotoko lose again

The Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem was the venue of attraction as Bechem United inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Kumasi Asante Kotoko in week 10 of the Ghana Premier League.

A lone goal from Kofi  Tompuo was enough to give the Hunters their third win of the season and also a third blow in the face of the Porcupine Warriors.

Kotoko have now lost three consecutive games in the league this season; raising questions on whether coach Prosper Ogum has the ability to marshall the warriors to the titles this season.

Elsewhere and Dreams Football Club recorded their first win this season with a 1-0 win over Medeama Sporting Club at the Tuba astroturf.

A Joseph Esso’s goal from 12 yards out was enough for the “Still Believe” lads to grab their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars were denied the opportunity to widen their lead on the league table with a hard-fought goalless draw at the Nana Abrefa Nketiah VII Park.

Despite both sides putting up spirited performances, neither team could find the back of the net, leading to a goalless result.

In other games, Nations FC closed in on the Premier League summit with an emphatic 3-0 win over Nsoatreman at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

In a blistering start, Nations FC netted three goals within the first ten minutes, effectively securing the match from the onset.

Boris Djangone opened the scoring just seconds into the game, setting the stage for Faisal Charwetey, who struck twice in quick succession in the 4th and 10th minutes.

Nations FC’s defense held on strong to record their seventh clean sheet of the season.

Defending champions Samartex scored in stoppage time against Legon Cities at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena to make it four consecutive home wins this season.

The Timber Giants claimed a hard-fought victory over the visitors, thanks to Seidu Abubakari’s last gasp goal.

On Friday, Hearts of Oak secured back-to-back victories with a 1-0 win over Vision FC at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday night.

The win sees the Phobians climb to fourth place on the table, just four points from the summit. This follows last week’s impressive 2-0 away triumph over Medeama in Tarkwa, signaling a strong resurgence for the Accra-based side.

In some other games

Heart of Lions were too strong for Berekum Chelsea to run away with points. The Kpando lads won by a lone goal.

Basake Holy Stars came from behind to beat Accra Lions by 2:1.
