The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)has cautioned that a possible 30 percent increase remains on the table if projected fuel price hikes take effect.
The warning follows the latest outlook report from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), which projects that petrol could rise by 9.63 percent to GH¢16 per litre, diesel by 6.97 percent to GH¢16.77 per litre, and liquefied petroleum gas by a more modest 3.22 percent.
Deputy Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Samuel Amoah speaking on Star Today on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, said the anticipated fuel increases compound existing cost pressures on transport operators.
“The increment of fuel that is coming again is a worry to all of us. Already, we are having a percentage proposal of transport fare increments on the table of the Transport Ministry,” Amoah said.
The possible increment, he said, may occur after reviewing the report of a committee set up to review the pricing.
“We are waiting for reports from a committee that was formed after our last meeting to go and check on the component that we are saying has gone up. Then, they submit their report. So that is what we are waiting for. And after their report, we believe that definitely there is going to be an increment,” he added.
He said the committee met last week and is expected to submit its findings shortly, after which the Ministry of Transport is likely to convene a meeting, possibly between Thursday and Friday.
“Basically, between Thursday and Friday, something might come up,” he said.
