The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has reaffirmed its decision to continue with its ongoing nationwide industrial action, urging all nurses and midwives across the country to remain resolute in their demand for the full approval and implementation of the 2024 Collective Agreement.
In a communique issued on Monday, June 3, the Association rejected what it described as intimidation and divisive narratives, stating that such tactics would not deter their legitimate demands. GRNMA leadership emphasized that the Ministry of Health should focus its efforts on securing approval from the Ministry of Finance for the Collective Agreement signed in May 2024.
“The primary aim of leadership is none other than to get the Collective Agreement approved and implemented without any further delay,” the Association stated.

The statement called on all nurses and midwives to remain “focused, resolute, and unperturbed,” describing the strike as a “JUST one.” The Association underscored that the implementation timelines for Collective Agreements must be respected and not altered arbitrarily.
In a firm directive, GRNMA informed its members that the withdrawal of Outpatient Department (OPD) services should be accompanied by a withdrawal of emergency services.
Additionally, rotation and trainee nurses and midwives were instructed to fully participate in the industrial action, with the Association reminding them of their responsibilities under the supervision of senior staff.
“We urge all to follow the roadmap of actions diligently,” the statement read.

GRNMA expressed appreciation to the media for amplifying their concerns and thanked Members of Parliament who have shown support for their cause. The Association also called on Parliament to urgently intervene and help avoid a total shutdown of nursing and midwifery services by June 9, 2025.
“We are grateful to the nursing and midwifery fraternity for the deep sense of solidarity and urge you all to remain vigilant, united, and steadfast,” the statement concluded.
