The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is targeting to build an online business register to provide businesses with data to guide strategic business decisions.
The online business will also enhance their turnover and competitive advantage by early next year through the 2023 Ghana Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES).
IBES according to Government Statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim is part of the service’s work in the last decade towards identifying areas that need attention to drive national transformation, particularly in the area of business.
Speaking to the media on the side-lines of a consultative meeting with stakeholders of about 60 unique umbrella business organisations from the southern part of the country ahead of the rollout of the Ghana 2023 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES), IBES Coordinator, Anthony Krakah revealed that the 160 million Ghana cedi project, whose target is to enumerate all business in the country between October and December this year, would provide firms with data that can be used for strategic business decisions to enhance their turnover and competitive advantage amongst other benefits.
“This census activity is going to benefit the business community. Businesses who want to grow, enhance their profitability or want to be more competitive can use this data to inform their strategic decisions. Additonally, those who want to set up new businesses can use this data”, he told the media.
Treasurer and National Executive Council Member of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Raphael Ayittey, also urged all businesses to endeavour to be counted as he says the findings can help government develop targeted policies.
“Government can create policies that promote the private sector only with credible and comprehensive data that reflect the country’s business population. Let’s be accommodative of the enumerators and get the right information which eventually will inure to our benefits”, he charged stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), Sammy Amegayibor, charged the statistical service to simplify its survey in a form that is appreciable by all businesses.
The stakeholder consultative meeting is also expected to be held in the middle and northern belts of the country to abreast business on the survey and get the buy in of business owners across the country.
