The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is investigating a viral video in which visiting Black Americans alleged they were kidnapped and extorted by individuals posing as police officers.
The Ghana Police Service and the Cyber Security Authority have launched full investigations into the matter, which the GTA says is being treated with urgency and seriousness.
In a statement, the authority reassured the public that Ghana remains a safe and trusted destination, especially during the “December in GH” festive season.
“Our security systems, supported by law enforcement and tourism sector partners, have been reinforced to guarantee the safety, comfort, and peace of mind of all visitors throughout the festive season,” the GTA said.
The GTA urged the public to remain calm and allow authorities to complete their investigations.
