Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Weija Treatment Plant to allow for emergency repair works on major pipelines supplying water to parts of western Accra.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, the company said the shutdown has become necessary due to ongoing repair works in the area.
The shutdown, which took effect at 10:00 am today, is expected to last until 5:00 pm, causing temporary water supply disruptions to several communities.
Affected areas are Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and surrounding communities.
GWL apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents that engineers are working tirelessly to complete the repairs within the scheduled period.
“Our Engineers are on site working hard to ensure that the work is completed on schedule. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the statement noted.
GWL urged residents in the affected areas to store enough water and assured that supply will resume immediately after the repair works are completed.
