The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, together with a delegation including the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, on Tuesday paid a visit to Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS) following a devastating fire incident.
The Minister assured school authorities of an urgent intervention to facilitate the rehabilitation of the affected housemaster’s bungalow.

The fire, which broke out around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, completely destroyed the residence of the housemaster and his family, including his wife who recently gave birth. The blaze damaged the roof, ceiling, furniture, home appliances, and other personal belongings.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction in the ceiling.
“Our initial assessment points to an electrical fault in the ceiling as the likely source of the fire,” the GNFS stated.

The swift response of firefighters helped prevent the flames from spreading to the nearby boys’ dormitory, which was located close to the affected building.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, commended the Education Minister for his prompt response, expressing hope that the damaged facility would be restored soon.
