The Ministry of Health has postponed the Centralised Nursing and Midwifery Licensing Examinations to September 4, 2025, following consultations with key stakeholders.
In a statement on Friday, August 22, the Ministry announced that decision was reached at a meeting between the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI).
Under the new arrangement, the statement says, the examinations will no longer be held at centralised venues but instead conducted in candidates’ respective training institutions—a return to the previous practice.
The statement signed by Deputy Director and Spokesperson Tony Goodman, noted that the directive is aimed at reducing the risks associated with students travelling long distances to sit for exams.
He described it as a measure to safeguard candidates’ welfare while ensuring fairness and stronger supervision by the NMC.
“The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, further stressed that it is not proper for students to travel from one region to another to sit for examinations. He also assured all stakeholders that the Ministry will provide the necessary logistics to ensure the successful implementation of this directive,” the statement noted.
The NMC is expected to release a revised timetable and detailed guidelines in the coming days.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to candidates, training institutions, and stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding during the transition.
