Heath Goldfields Bogoso-Prestea Mine is set to establish a nursing training institution in the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality as part of a five-year community development plan backed by a $20 million investment.

The initiative was announced by the Managing Director of the company, Patrick Appiah Mensah, during the launch of Heath Goldfields’ five-year community development programme.

The development plan is aimed at transforming lives across the company’s operational communities through major investments in education, enterprise development, infrastructure, healthcare, and job creation.

Mr. Appiah Mensah disclosed that the company will establish a nursing training college in Prestea, construct a modern community centre in Bogoso, and set up a technical and vocational training centre at Beppoh . The company also plans to construct a modern market at Bondaye

Other projects captured under the development agenda include a partnership with the University of Mines and Technology to establish a campus in Prestea, the construction of a new clinic and Junior High School at Dumasi , a new school block at Brakwaline , and a CHPS compound at Kumsono.

Additionally, the company intends to provide a JHS block and CHPS compound for Kwame Niapa , portable water and a CHPS compound for Akokobediabrow as well as improve the road network at Mbease Nsuta.

According to Mr. Appiah Mensah, the company’s vision goes beyond gold production.

“The true value of mining is not only measured in ounces of gold, but also in the jobs created, businesses empowered, families supported, and lives transformed,” he stated.

He used the occasion to appeal to government to extend greater support to indigenous mining firms, similar to the assistance often provided to foreign mining companies.

“There is an urgent need for Ghana to support indigenous mining companies that are committed to long-term national development,” he stressed.

Mr. Appiah Mensah further noted that the success of the projects will depend largely on the support and cooperation of the beneficiary communities.

“I respectfully appeal to our chiefs, youth, and people within our catchment communities: let us protect this mine. Let us reject activities that undermine the operations of the mine, destroy infrastructure, or threaten the safety and sustainability of the mine, because the success of the mine directly affects the success of the development programme,” he added.
