President John Dramani Mahama has recognized 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their heroic efforts in recovering the bodies of victims from the military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives earlier this month.
The crash, which occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve within the Adansi Akrofrom District, claimed the lives of several high-ranking officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, led a delegation to the community on behalf of the President.
Addressing the residents, he commended them for their selfless service during the crisis.
The NDC National Chairman presented a GHS100,000 cash package to the residents who assisted in recovering the bodies, alongside an additional GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support traditional rites.
He also announced that all 13 rescuers would be offered jobs suited to their skills and capacities.
In addition, the President pledged to undertake key infrastructure projects in the area, starting with the rehabilitation of local roads.
Adansihene Abu Bonsrah praised the government for recognizing the community’s efforts and encouraged the development of a tourism center to commemorate the victims of the helicopter crash.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene reassured residents that only the immediate accident scene remains restricted.
The gesture has been widely welcomed as a significant acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by ordinary citizens during a national tragedy.
