Renowned Ghanaian gospel artiste Diana Hamilton has shared the inspiring story of how she discovered her musical talent during an interview on Starr Chart with Bola Ray. The award-winning singer revealed that she first realized she could sing at the age of seven, a discovery that eventually led her to a successful career in gospel music.
“I just realized I was singing around age seven, and when you’re singing, and it sounds good in your ear, you know,” she said. “I saw a lot of grown-ups sing, and I felt I could sing the way they were singing, if not better.”
Hamilton recalled how her family played a crucial role in encouraging her talent. “At one point, all my aunties said I could sing, and then I knew, okay, I must be doing something right.”
Her passion for music grew as she actively looked for opportunities to sing, whether at home, school, or church. By the age of 13, she took a bold step by performing in church, a moment that solidified her journey into music. She credited her aunt, Martha Iza, for persistently pushing her to sing in church, despite her initial reluctance.
“My parents were in Sierra Leone, so I was living with my auntie. Every Sunday, she would give my name to the elders of the church and say, ‘Diana will sing.’ And I would be so cross, but she pushed me to do what I love.”
Bola Ray acknowledged Maa Teresa ’s role in shaping Diana Hamilton’s career, thanking her for encouraging the young singer to embrace her talent.
Today, Diana Hamilton is one of Ghana’s most celebrated gospel musicians, known for hit songs like Adom (Grace) and Mo Ne Yo. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many aspiring musicians, showing that talent, dedication, and a little push from loved ones can lead to greatness.
