Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has firmly rejected calls for him to resign after overseeing what has been described as Ghana’s worst AFCON qualification series since 2004 after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars ended the shambolic campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In the wake of the team’s underwhelming campaign, Addo faced mounting pressure from fans and media personalities, but in a response to a question posed to him on whether he is considering resignation, the former Borussia Dortmund coach was emphatic in stating he had no such plans.
“I’m not the type of person who can resign. If I had done this, I’d never have become a player or even a coach, I don’t give up easily, “Otto Addo said during a press conference. “If you know where I have come from as a person to arrive at this job, you won’t even ask about resignation.”
Otto Addo’s statement underscores his determination to stay the course and focus on preparing the Black Stars for future challenges, including the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March 2025.
