VIDEO: Election 2024 will go down as one of the best – Bossman Asare

Deputy Chairman in charge of corporate services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare has expressed confidence that the upcoming election will be among the most smoothly conducted in Ghana’s history.

He attributes this optimism to several factors, including ample preparation time and strengthened processes.

Speaking about the preparations for the December 7th polls, on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko, Dr. Asare highlighted the significant difference in preparation time compared to the 2020 elections, which were conducted under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In 2020, we did the election under COVID, and we used almost six months to compile the voters’ register. We used that same period to do voter exhibition and a whole lot of things, and we did the elections, but this year, we have enough time”, Dr. Asare recounted.

He emphasized that the EC has proactively strengthened its systems, particularly by employing additional collation officer’s at all three levels – constituency, regional, and national. This measure, coupled with the lessons learned from the 2020 elections, forms the basis of his confident assertion.

“One thing we have done to strengthen our system has to do with the employment of collation officers at all three levels of collation: constituency, regional, and national levels. We have doubled down on the good measures we adopted in 2020,” Dr. Asare explained.

He predicts a highly efficient and successful election by combining the improved infrastructure with the increased public awareness and transparency surrounding the electoral processes.

“With this good environment and publicity about our processes, this election will go down as one of the best,” he concluded.

His positive outlook contrasts with concerns raised by some political parties and observers about the potential for irregularities.
