The Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has urged communicators of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain focused on promoting the government’s achievements, particularly the stability of the economy.
He said the NPP is desperately attempting to shift focus of Ghanaians to nonexisting scandals to discredit government but urged the party communicators to remain focus on the gains made.
According to him, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) appears to be struggling to understand why, after a year in government, no scandal has emerged.
He alleged that this has led to attempts to fabricate controversies including recent propaganda with fallen cocoa price, sole source road construction contracts to discredit the administration.
Thomas Nyarko Ampem who doubles as Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman made these remarks during a capacity-building workshop organised by the Eastern Regional Communications Bureau of the NDC in Koforidua during the weekend.
Also addressing participants, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, encouraged party members to remain patient and committed in their service to the party. He cited his own political journey within the NDC as an example, urging members to trust that their time for recognition would come.
The workshop, held under the theme, “Communicating with Impact,” featured presentations from experts in political communication, including Kobby Mensah.
Eastern Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Kwadwo Dankwa, lauded the success of the programme. He noted that the training was crucial in helping communicators transition from opposition-style messaging to effectively articulating the policies and achievements of a governing party.
“So the crowd you see there are regional or constituency communication officers, they are deputies, other communicators in the 33 constituencies, serial callers and serial testers and also our MMDCs within the enclave of the eastern region. It was necessary that we bring all of them together as one and as part of the communications wing a duty to make sure that we develop their skill especially because they are those who go on radio and tv, they are those who text on to shows to market the party and to market whatever the president and the government is doing” said Kwadwo Dankwa, Eastern Regional Communications Officer.

He added, “You know when you are in power there’s a way and manner communicators must communicate and when you are in opposition there’s also a way you must communicate and so there is a need for our communicators to transition from the opposition communication to a proper way of communicating in power and so that’s the more reason why we had to bring them here…”
Present at the workshop were Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Chairman of NDC Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, Ako Gun, Deputy National Communications Officer, among others.
