Government has officially declared Friday, April 3, 2026, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The announcement, issued by the Ministry of the Interior in Accra on Monday, March 30, 2026, is in line with Ghana’s long-standing tradition of recognising key Christian celebrations as national holidays, reflecting the country’s religious diversity and cultural values.
Good Friday, observed by Christians worldwide, commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, while Easter Monday follows the celebration of Easter Sunday, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
These days are typically observed with church services, family gatherings, and national reflection on themes of sacrifice, renewal, and hope.

In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the public was urged to observe the holidays accordingly across the country.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 3rd April 2026, and Monday, 6th April, mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively, which are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.
The Interior Ministry reminded institutions, businesses, and individuals to take note of the holiday period and plan their activities accordingly, as government offices and many private establishments are expected to close or operate on limited schedules during the period.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order during the holidays while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and in peace.
