The Minister-designate for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has disclosed that he will investigate the contract signed by the Ministry of Health for the maintenance of ambulances.
During his vetting before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on January 31, Akandoh revealed that while the initial contract was for the purchase of 307 ambulances for $41 million, an additional agreement for $77 million over five years for maintenance had caught his attention.
The Minister-designate expressed his intention to launch a full investigation into the maintenance arrangement, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
“I intend to launch an investigation into this arrangement. For the spare parts and the contract with the company maintaining Ghana’s ambulances, I have received a briefing on the issue. If approved by the committee, I am determined to investigate this matter thoroughly.”
“I have seen a contract showing that the ministry later signed a maintenance agreement worth $77 million over five years. The rate of vehicle deterioration does not justify such an amount.”
