Heath Goldfields Ltd has confirmed that the illegal miners involved in the tragic incident on the company’s Prestea concession gained entry through unauthorised routes into a restricted section of the underground mine.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company said preliminary findings showed that the individuals had “used unauthorised routes to access a restricted area of the Mine,” leading to a fatal situation in an inactive underground section. Three miners lost their lives after being trapped.
