Flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he is prepared to run the country as soon as he is sworn in as president in the event he wins the upcoming election.
Drawing contrast with former President Mahama, the NPP presidential candidate said he would not need grace period at the beginning of his term in office in order to lay the foundation for his administration.
In January, Mr. Mahama during a campaign engagement urged labour unions in the country to give a future government under his leadership some time to sort things out before making demands about conditions of service.
“And you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy. This country is broke, and so we will beg you that when we come into office give us a bit of a honeymoon, let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its feet,” the NDC leader had said at the time.
Dr. Bawumia, who has repeatedly criticized that the former president for the comment, said he did not need a honeymoon period as he was ready to hit the ground running as soon as he takes the nation’s highest office.
“I don’t need a honeymoon period. I know what I want to do from my first day as president,”he said at his rally to climax the NPP campaign this election season.
He lashed out at his main opponent for refusing to debate him, telling his supporters Mr. Mahama had fled from the proposition of a two-person debate.
“I told Mahama to come for a debate so that I could pin him down with facts and data, but he ran away,” Dr. Bawumia said.
He appealed to Ghanaians to elect him president come December 7 to enable him transform the country.
