The Government of Ghana has conferred the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana on the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi during a state dinner at the presidency.
This is in recognition of his outstanding global leadership and contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and India.
A citation signed by President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged Prime Minister Mordi’s contribution to India’s progress as well as his efforts in championing global initiatives.
“Your visionary leadership has elevated India’s role on the global stage in international affairs. Your stewardship of the G20 Summit and initiatives like the International Solar Alliance have underscored your commitment to multilateralism, climate action, and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” the citation read.
As one of Ghana’s highest national awards, the state honour also celebrates Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in strengthening economic cooperation, development support and diplomatic partnership between the two nations.

“Under your leadership, the relationship between Ghana and India has grown stronger, including through your generous grant to establish Ghana’s first Foreign Service Institute.
“Rooted in shared values, history, and solidarity among nations of the Global South, our cooperation has deepened in ways that benefit our peoples and advance our common aspirations for peace, development, and equity,” the citation added.

On his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude President Mahama and the people of Ghana for the recognition.
He pledged India’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties between Ghana and India and to explore new opportunities for mutual cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Ghana for a two-day state visit. He was welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama.
The two leaders held bilateral talks, signed multiple cooperation agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering wide range of sectors including Agriculture, Education, Health, Defense, Technology amongst others.

President Mahama accompanied by Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman later hosted Prime Minister Modi and his delegation to a State Dinner at the Presidential Villa.
