The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has defended the use of online aptitude tests in the recruitment process for Ghana’s security agencies, saying the measure was necessary due to the unusually high number of applications received.
Speaking to the media, the Minister revealed that more than 500,000 people applied for positions across the country’s major security services, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
According to him, the aptitude test was introduced as part of a transparent process to reduce the large pool of applicants to a manageable number for recruitment.
He explained that candidates were required to obtain a minimum score of 65 percent in the test as part of the screening process to select only 5,000 successful recruits.
The Interior Minister also dismissed claims circulating in some quarters that recruitment opportunities were being offered through unofficial channels, stressing that the process remains strictly merit-based.
He maintained that the rigorous screening process is aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency, and efficiency in selecting qualified individuals to serve in the country’s security services.
