The International Society of Dermatology (ISD) has appointed Dr. Kofi Ansah Brifo, a renowned medical doctor and founder of Skin Foundation Africa (SFA), as the West African Representative on its Communication Committee.
Dr. Brifo makes history as the first Ghanaian to serve in this capacity, further solidifying his role as one of Africa’s most influential voices in global dermatology.
The announcement was made during the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) conference in Paris.
Widely recognised as *The Skin Messiah*, Dr. Brifo has devoted his career to bridging clinical excellence with community impact. Through innovative projects and compassionate patient care, he has championed the cause of making dermatology accessible to all, particularly in underserved African communities.
“I accept this role with humility and a deep sense of responsibility,” said Dr. Brifo. “My focus will be to ensure that Africa’s voice is amplified in the global dermatology conversation, and that access to skincare becomes a universal right, not a privilege. This is about bringing equity, innovation, and compassion to the forefront of dermatological care.”
Dr. Brifo’s flagship initiative, the Summer Skin Project (SSP), reflects his philosophy of combining science with service. SSP provides free acne consultations in Ghana, addressing both the medical and psychological dimensions of the condition. By restoring confidence and dignity to patients, the project exemplifies his belief that dermatology extends far beyond skin—it is about improving overall quality of life.
As West African Representative on the ISD Communication Committee, Dr. Brifo will play a critical role in shaping ISD’s global communication strategies while ensuring that African innovations and challenges are visible on the world stage. His appointment reflects ISD’s commitment to diversity and the inclusion of voices from all regions of the world.
Dr. Brifo is a distinguished skincare advocate, founder of Skin Foundation Africa, and lead champion for accessible skincare across Africa. With over a decade of clinical and community experience, he has built a reputation as a visionary leader, compassionate physician, and global ambassador for African dermatology.
