The Mankranso District Police Command, in collaboration with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, has carried out a joint anti-galamsey operation targeting illegal mining activities in the Mpasaaso and Achiaase areas.
The operation, which took place on Monday, 2 June 2025, forms part of broader efforts to clamp down on unauthorised mining. According to a press release from the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi, several illegal miners fled the sites upon sighting the approaching security team, abandoning various equipment and items in the process.
A thorough search and inspection of the mining sites led to the seizure of the following:
- One (1) CAL 9mm pistol loaded with three (3) rounds of live ammunition
- Four (4) pump-action guns
- Twelve (12) live BB cartridges
- Five (5) live AA cartridges
- Five (5) excavators
The five excavator machines have since been impounded and are currently being held at the premises of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly. Meanwhile, the seized firearms and ammunition are in custody at the Mankranso District Police Command for further investigation.
The Regional Police Command has commended all officers and stakeholders who participated in the successful operation. They have also called on the public to support law enforcement by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of individuals engaged in illegal mining.
