The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has led the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jomoro, Benedict Boadi, to meet the Minister for Communication, Samuel Nartey George, to discuss efforts to improve telecommunications infrastructure and expand network coverage across the municipality.
The meeting focused on the status of network poles already mounted in several communities and measures to ensure the existing infrastructure becomes operational.
Following the discussions, the Minister directed engineers from the Ministry of Communication to meet with the MCE on Wednesday to reassess the poles installed in the affected communities.
The reassessment will determine the technical requirements needed to connect the existing infrastructure to the national grid, paving the way for improved telecommunications services in the beneficiary communities.
The communities include Ellenda, Nuba, Ellonyi, Twenen, Ebonloa, New Kabenlasuazo, Adusuazo, Twearkor No. 2, Jaway and Mpaesem.
The intervention follows concerns about the status of the installed poles and the need to ensure that the infrastructure translates into improved network connectivity for residents.
Three additional communities to benefit
In a related development, the Minister assured the MP and the MCE that arrangements were underway to extend network infrastructure to three additional communities in the municipality before the end of November 2026.
The communities are Nsuano, Ghana Nungua and Fawoman.
The planned extension follows a request by Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Transport, as part of efforts to expand telecommunications infrastructure to more communities in Jomoro.
Engineers are expected to visit the three communities to conduct preliminary assessments and determine the necessary coordinates ahead of the commencement of the project.
The assessments are expected to guide the implementation process and establish the technical requirements for extending network infrastructure to the beneficiary communities.
Improving connectivity in Jomoro
The planned reassessment and expansion form part of ongoing efforts to address telecommunications infrastructure gaps across the Jomoro Municipality.
Improved network coverage is expected to support communication, education, business operations and access to digital services, particularly in communities where connectivity remains a challenge.
Reliable telecommunications infrastructure can also facilitate access to information and support economic activities among residents.
The MP and the MCE are expected to continue engaging the relevant authorities to ensure that the planned technical assessments and infrastructure extensions progress towards implementation.
Their offices have reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Ministry and other stakeholders to improve telecommunications infrastructure and expand network coverage across the municipality.
