Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. Julius Debrah, has charged young people to prioritise their social security as a crucial investment in their future.
Speaking at the 60th Anniversary of the Social Security and Insurance Trust under the theme, “A legacy of Service”, Julius Debrah delivered a rousing to the youth to prepare for their future while they young emphasizing the importance of early planning for retirement.
He called on Ghana’s youth to shift their focus beyond immediate earnings and recognize the long-term value of social security.
“Social Security is not just about pensions,” he said. “It is a promise; a promise that your hard work today will be rewarded tomorrow.”
The ceremony, which brought together key dignitaries including Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic, alongside representatives from organized labour, the judiciary, and the pensions sector, celebrated SSNIT’s six decades of transformative service.
From humble beginnings, SSNIT has evolved into a cornerstone of Ghana’s social protection system; providing income security, restoring dignity to retirees, and earning the public’s trust through consistent delivery.
Hon. Debrah challenged the younger generation to take charge of their future: “You don’t prepare for the future when you’re older. You prepare for it while you’re young,” he said. “Look beyond the payslip, take ownership of your social security journey.”
He commended SSNIT for embracing digital innovation to enhance service delivery and transparency, and encouraged continuous reforms that align with Ghana’s broader development goals.
Closing his address, the Chief of Staff expressed deep gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering commitment. “This milestone is not just a celebration of the past, but a call to action,” he said. “Let us deepen our culture of service and strengthen public confidence in our social security system.” Julius Debrah said.
