The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has commissioned a passport application center in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua.
This is part of efforts by government to ensure that all 16 regions in the country get Passport Center to end many decades of struggle for passport due to the virtually centralized operational system of the passport application office.
The Regional centers would be strictly for online applications. Applicants whose documents are processed would then be notified to visit the office for their biometric data to be captured.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey commissioning the facility in Koforidua Wednesday stated that the application center would relieve people of the region the inconvenience of traveling to Greater Accra and Volta Region for passport services in fulfillment of President Akufo-Addo’s promise to extend passport services to the doorsteps of Ghanaians in all parts of the country.
Mrs. Botchwey appealed to the public to extend the needed cooperation to the staff at the center.
She also cautioned that individuals should desist in engaging in fraudulent activities such as bringing forged documents that would undermine the integrity of the Ghanaian passport.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour was happy for the establishment of the passport application center because acquisition of passport in the country was such that people had to spend sleepless nights in Accra to receive one.
