Asante Kotoko rallied from behind to secure a thrilling victory over Hearts of Oak, claiming their ninth President’s Cup title at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Mohammed Camara’s crucial late penalty save preserved a 2-1 victory for the Porcupine Warriors over the Phobians on Sunday, July 6.
Hamza Issah pounced on a blunder by Mohammed Camara in the 27th minute to break the deadlock at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Camara mishandled a cross into the box, spilling the ball into open space for the Hearts forward to slot home into an empty net.
Kotoko pushed for an immediate equaliser after conceding but struggled to gain control, finishing the first half a goal behind.
However, Kotoko wasted no time after the restart, quickly finding the back of the net.
Peter Amidu Acquah sparked the equaliser with a surging run down the left, as his effort deflected off Konadu Yiadom to level the score at 1-1.
Just a minute after equalising, Kotoko struck again — Kwame Poku calmly slotted home into an empty net after receiving a perfectly placed square pass.
Poku had a golden chance to extend Kotoko’s lead in the 74th minute but missed the opportunity, failing to connect with Albert Amoah’s low cross across the face of goal.
Hearts saw a goal disallowed for offside before being awarded a penalty moments later. Emmanuel Amankwah stepped up, but his spot kick was denied by Kotoko goalkeeper Camara.
Hearts had late opportunities to equalise but failed to make them count. In the end, Kotoko held firm to secure the crucial victory and add another President’s Cup title to their collection.
