Political analyst Dr. Bernard Tutu Banahene says the Kpandai parliamentary rerun has exposed ongoing weaknesses in Ghana’s electoral system.
His comments follow the Tamale High Court’s annulment of the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election results, ordering a rerun within 30 days after a successful petition cited electoral irregularities.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Tuesday, November 25, Dr. Banahene described the court’s decision as a stark reminder of recurring gaps in the electoral process.
“It is a wake-up call to some of the gaps in our electoral system… which seems to be repeating itself,” he said, emphasizing the need for stronger checks during voting and collation.
The analyst noted that the original election was decided by a slim margin, suggesting a closely contested rerun.
“What I am expecting is that the two candidates will put up a very decent campaign, a very hard-working campaign, and who at the end of the day, if their strategy is superior, carry the day,” he added.
Incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed confidence in retaining his seat in the upcoming rerun.
