The young man allegedly shot in the thigh by soldiers at Nuaso in Lower Manya Krobo risk being amputated.

Sakitey David Odonkor was on Monday August 22,2022 caught up in military attack on unarmed civilians at Nuaso community while on his way to buy food and was allegedly shot.

He was rushed to St. Martin Deporres Hospital in Agormanya but an x-ray scan result showed fractured bone which the doctors recommend amputation.

However, the family of the victim failed to give consent and has since brought the victim to the house to explore other medical interventions including herbal treatment.

” I was in the house watching TV. I have a child, he told me he was hungry so I stepped out to buy waakye for him. I saw ECG staff and Military .When I was returning ,heard warning shots then suddenly I was shot in the leg. so I was rushed to Roman hospital but they said they will amputate my leg .So my brother came and took me home”.

“I am learning how to drive. I have one child and a wife .Now I don’t know who is going to take care of us,” traumatised victim Sakitey David Odonkor told Starr News.

The victim is now bedridden hence currently wears baby diapers.

Brother of the victim Theophilus Tetteh said the victim’s condition will further impoverish the family.

“Even walking with two legs have been a problem as the economy has been now a days .And now that he’s been in this condition the burden will be on me alone .I also have a family it will affect them too.so we need help to take care of his medical condition”

David Odonkor is among dozens of residents in Nuaso injured by the military on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress visited troubled Nuaso Community Tuesday evening to sympathize with victims and engage residents to understand their concerns to push same for a national conversation for the impasse to be resolved immediately.

Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, an aspiring regional Chairman condemned militarization of internal security by Akufo-Addo led government. He said such abuse is recipe for insecurity .

The E/R Regional Secretary of NDC Kudjo Adukpo, assured, the party will exert pressure on government for the concerns on over billing and related issues resolved for peace to prevail on Kroboland.

Addressing the NDC delegation, the Dorm divisional Chief of Manya Krobo Nene Bediako Muala III blamed the paramount chief of Manya Krobo Nene Sakite II for the military brutality and renewed escalating tension in Nuaso and Odumase Krobo area.

According to him, Nene SaKite’s recommendation and agreement to deployment of armed military personnel to Kroboland during a National security meeting he single handedly attended, at a time a Committee was working on the impasse for a roadmap for resolution, is uncalled for .

Nene Bediako Mualla III, called for immediate withdrawal of the armed military from the kroboland.

ECG cut power supply to the Yilo and Manya Krobo area on July 27,2022 after residents resisted prepaid meter installation and tampered with transformers.

However, power was restored on August 19,2022 with exclusion of Nuaso community.
