Effa Osei Bonsu David has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu South in the Eastern Region.
He secured 84% of the total valid votes cast by Assembly members during a confirmation exercise held on Monday.
Out of 37 votes cast, Effa Osei Bonsu David polled 31 YES votes against 6 NO votes, making him the first out of 33 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees in the Eastern Region to be confirmed.
In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed MCE expressed profound gratitude to all stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and successful election.
He called for collective efforts to advance the development of the Municipality.
“The election is over — the time to work is now. I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to move Kwahu South forward,” he said.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who witnessed the event, praised the Assembly for their show of unity and maturity.
She reiterated that the government’s Reset Agenda begins with competent leadership at the local level to drive developments.
“I urge all Assembly members to give President Mahama’s MMDCE nominees their full support so we can drive inclusive development at the grassroots,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Krontihene of Kwahu Asakraka, Nana Samuel Addo Opoku, aged 62, was also elected Presiding Member for the Assembly.
The confirmation exercise was held under tight security and was largely peaceful.
The Elections were supervised by the Electoral Commission.
