Accra-based Legon Cities have secured their first win of the season in dramatic fashion after beating Kumasi Asante Kotoko by 2 goals to 1 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Cities who were coming into the game on the back of 5 losses and 2 draws were bottom of the table with just 2 points and needed 3 points badly.
Coach Paa Kwasi Fabian’s boys started the game very well and got rewarded in the 23rd minute when Albert Yeboah hit the ball from outside the box from a Dennis Adoma pass after he pounced on a Freddie Blay mistake.
Kotoko came back in the second half and put so much pressure on the home side and were rewarded with a penalty in the 73rd minute after Ishmael Amoah blocked the ball with his arm. Albert Amoah expertly converted the penalty to draw Kotoko level and set up a nervy end to the game.
The game looked set for a draw until second-half substitute Rahim Yaya Abdul flicked the ball pass Kotoko’s goalkeeper Frederick Asare after a brilliant cross in the 91st minute to give Legon Cities all 3 points.
The win means Cities now have 5 points and move to the 17th position above Dreams FC while Kotoko stay second after missing the chance to go top of the table.
