Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, says it is best to allow the court to rule on the Electoral Commission’s decision to conduct a rerun in parts of the country.
Speaking in an interview with Emmanuel Agyabeng on GHToday on GHOne TV on July 8, 2025, Mr. Jantuah stated that since the matter has been taken to court, all stakeholders should await its judgment instead of engaging in endless debates.
“It’s the EC’s choice to do it. They’re an independent body, aren’t they? For me, all this talk about it ends in the court, and the court will decide. I think it’s a good thing that the lady has taken it to court because there’s even discrepancy there,” he said.
Mr. Jantuah noted that past judgments do not bind the court, and it could rule differently based on the evidence presented by the EC. He urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare adequately regardless of the outcome.
“If the court says you’re entitled to do the rerun, then we go do the rerun. I think what the NPP should do is go back into the constituency and campaign hard to win,” he added.
He further advised the NPP to start building confidence in the electorate, especially after the devastating effect of the 2024 elections, noting that 2028 is just around the corner.
Mr. Jantuah emphasised that if the court does not hear the case before the rerun date, the EC will proceed, and the party must be ready.
“Either way, get in there, campaign hard enough… if it so happens that the court says you can’t, EC can go ahead and do what they have to do, then you are home and dry because you’ve done your homework,” he concluded.
