Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to collaborate in addressing what he describes as the Electoral Commission’s growing crisis of credibility.
His remarks follow the EC’s announcement of a re-run in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency; a decision the NPP has outrightly rejected, describing it as illegal and unlawful. The party has also threatened to take legal action against the Commission.
Reacting to the developments in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 9, Dr. Boamah criticized the NPP for ignoring repeated warnings from the NDC regarding the EC’s preparedness and impartiality in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections. He said these concerns, if heeded, could have prevented the current challenges.
Despite his criticism, Dr. Boamah emphasized the need for bipartisan cooperation to rebuild trust in the electoral process.
He wrote, “NPP: It’s not too late!——————————–Let’s work together to fix the broken Electoral Commission and save Ghana’s democracy! The NPP should have listened when we in the NDC raised several red flags about the Electoral Commission Ghana ahead of Elections 2024. It’s not too late…”
