Residents of Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, are calling on city authorities to stop a plastic waste site being fueled by one Fuseini.
According to the aggrieved locals, the waste site is making life unbearable for them since the toxic emanating from the site is having a toll on their health.
However, the authorities have failed to deal with the situation, despite consistent appeals to them.
They said Fuseini has threatened their lives on several occasions when they approach him to relocate his business.
Fuseini, the residents say, is rowdy and as a result, no one dares approach him and for three years now the residents have to endure living with these plastic waste close to their homes and workplace.
A seamstress, Mercy Dzradoe, complained bitterly about how she lost a contract worth thousands of cedis as a result of the plastic waste close to her shop. “My customer refused me a contract because of the waste near my shop. It breeds a lot of mosquitoes and they suffer the bites which puts them off,” she said.
Other residents like Mercy also lament over the deplorable sanitary situation.
Meanwhile, the assemblyman of the Adabraka municipality, Norgan Mohammed is appealing to his superiors to come to their aid since it is getting out of hand.
A patrol from the department of metro public health of AMA led by Charles Bosomprah has assured the necessary precaution will be taken to eliminate plastic waste.
The residents have been waiting for days waiting for the AMA to fulfil its promise.
