President John Dramani Mahama has underscored the need for stronger collaboration between the African Union (AU) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as Africa intensifies its call for reparative justice.
Speaking at the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting between the AU and Regional Economic Communities in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the President stressed that partnerships with CARICOM are vital to advancing Africa’s global reparations agenda.
“It is essential for Africa to articulate a unified and compelling narrative for reparations on the global stage,” Mahama stated. “In this regard, we encourage the development of robust partnerships with the Caribbean community CARICOM and advocate for effective execution of the AU–CARICOM Joint Mechanism.”

The President also highlighted plans for the upcoming AU–CARICOM Summit in September 2025 in Addis Ababa, where a postponed high-level panel on reparations, memory, and sovereignty is expected to take place.
